Category C training

Practical training for rigid goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. This page explains the route. It does not confirm that you qualify, and it does not state a price or a course length.

Who Category C is for

People who want to drive a rigid goods vehicle over 3.5 tonnes. The usual starting point is a category B car licence. Medical and theory steps sit alongside the practical training.

If you already hold Category C and need a trailer, seeCategory C+E training.

What you can drive

Category C is the rigid lorry entitlement. It covers goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass that are not articulated.

  • Rigid goods vehicles such as box wagons, tippers, flatbeds and similar lorries
  • Not an articulated lorry or a drawbar outfit. That is Category C+E

The vehicle used for training belongs to the provider. This demonstration does not name a make or model.

Eligibility and prerequisites

General guidance, not a check of your licence.

  • A category B car licence is the usual starting point
  • A medical assessment is normally required before a lorry practical test
  • Theory tests sit alongside the time in the vehicle
  • Paid driving work can also require Driver CPC, which is separate from the Category C licence
  • Age and medical rules depend on the person and the work. This page does not confirm that someone qualifies

Paid work may also involve Driver CPC. That is a separate qualification.

What training includes

  • Familiarisation with a rigid goods vehicle
  • Reversing and off-road manoeuvres
  • On-road driving
  • Guidance on what the practical test involves

How the course works

Four steps. Nothing here is a promised timetable.

  1. Enquire about Category C

Say that a rigid lorry is the aim, and how you would like to be contacted.

  2. Check the licence you hold

The provider looks at your current licence and explains the medical and theory steps. This page does not confirm eligibility.

  3. Train in the vehicle

Practical time covers the vehicle, the manoeuvres and the road driving.

  4. Prepare for the practical test

How the test is booked is explained when you enquire. This site does not claim a result.

Typical duration

No course length is published here. It depends on the licence already held and how the training days are arranged.

Price and quotes

No fee is published here. Ask for a quote for the training you need. Medicals, theory tests and the practical test are separate costs, and those figures are not listed on this demonstration.

Why train with this provider

Example points. No pass rate or award is attached.

  • One training base

Training is arranged from a single location. Meeting points are confirmed when you enquire, not published as a list of towns.

  • Straightforward advice

The entitlement, the training and the next step are explained before you are asked to commit.

  • Practical training

Time in the vehicle covers the manoeuvres and the road driving the test involves.

  • Local knowledge

Road work reflects the area around that base, rather than a page for every nearby town.

Training area

Training is arranged from one base. The town is a placeholder. No street address is published on this demonstration.

Areas served

  • Example Town
  • The surrounding area

Example areas for one base. A live site names the places the provider covers. It does not add a page for each town.

Example Town, Example County

No street address is published on this demonstration.

Learner proof

A sample quotation for the layout. It is not a real review, and it is not a rating.

  • Sample

The instruction was calm and practical. I knew which manoeuvres we would work on before each session.
